On Friday 13th July Rossendale Golf Club hosted the Robert Holden Golf Day. The event took place to raise money for Robert Holden, a talented sportsman who has been selected to be a part of the GB golf squad competing in the 2019 Special Olympics World Summer Games in Abu Dhabi. This was the largest golf day the club has ever been involved with, raising over £7000 for Robert.
Robert is a multi-talented sportsman, at the age of 22 he competed as a skier in the Special Olympic Winter Games where he took home three medals, including a gold.
Recently, Robert also took home a gold medal in the Special Olympics National Games in Sheffield which boosted him a step further to competing in the 2019 World Games.
Robert’s mum Jane says, “When he competed in Sheffield he was amazing. He played over three days on an 18-hole championship course. He was so focused, it was remarkable, and he took everyone by storm! We had applied for the World Games and when we found out he was in the squad I cried, I was so proud of him! He was euphoric – he is so looking forward to it.”
By holding the golf day, Robert’s family hoped to raise as much money as possible to help realise his dream of competing in March next year. Quick Capital have supported Robert in his journey by sponsoring a hole at the event that was held at Rossendale Golf Club on 13th July.
Teams of four competed for fantastic prizes and throughout the day there was a courtesy course bar as well as pie and peas after play.
